Through It All | Connection

The loss of a loved one can be lonely, isolating, and disorienting. It feels like no one understands what you’re going through. The friends or family you thought you could count on may not show up when you need them. And to make matters worse, you might feel like a burden to the other people in your life, so you don’t reach out when you need help or someone by your side.

But healing comes through community. As the church, we are called to be with those who are hurting, to be a tangible reminder of God’s love. We’re meant to hold hope for one another when hope feels lost, to walk alongside each other through life’s joys as well as its disappointments and heartaches — through it all.

That’s why we have developed Through It All | Connection: to make sure no one walks through grief alone. We accomplish this goal through peer-to-peer relationships which pair grieving individuals with trained volunteers who have experienced similar loss but are 4+ years into their own journey with grief. This relationship creates space where the grieving person can feel understood and hopefully find strength and hope, seeing how someone

else has survived the pain of a similar loss. In addition to emotional and spiritual support, volunteers will also advocate for the grieving person, bringing tangible needs (i.e. grocery delivery, babysitting, lawn/home care, etc.) to their home church so the community can rally support.

We partner directly with churches to recruit volunteers in the local congregation. Through It All provides grief education training for church staff and volunteers, as well as lists of recommended resources for further learning. We also connect your church with other churches in your city, creating a larger network of support as we all work together to care for those who are grieving.

"Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves receive from God."
2 Corinthians 1:3-4

You Can Make a Life-Changing Difference

If you’re interested in becoming a trained volunteer or you’re ready to prepare your church to be a place where grieving people can find hope and healing, click the button to the right to reach out to us. We’d love to talk with you!

“When asked if I would be willing to speak with Sarah, a part of me almost gave into the lies that I wasn’t ready, that I wasn’t put together enough, or that I wouldn’t know what to say. Thankfully, the urge from the Spirit overcame the comfortability of saying no. Within a few minutes of our first conversation, I felt at peace and a sense of familiarity and connection. Hearing her tell me that she had been praying to find someone like me to talk to, instantly brought tears to my eyes and still does. Grief is hard. But this experience let me see God’s desire to use our brokenness and shame as a way to be His hands and feet. Grief can be isolating. But this experience demonstrated God’s ability to bring two strangers together and meet them in their deepest pain, and be able to form a deep and meaningful connection. I can’t think of many other scenarios in life where two strangers meet and are able to hold the space for one another’s stories or where you can speak life and truth into someone’s life because of where you’ve been. Grief is a lifelong journey, but this experience provided me with a newfound layer of healing, as I could honor my loved one’s memory and walk alongside someone else in their own journey.”

There's more to come!  We are currently in the process of developing more programs and resources to provide further support for churches to come alongside their community.  These offerings, such as Come to the Table and The After-Loss Checklist, will be launching in late 2024.

In the meantime, we'd love your help building our directory of professionals...

Volunteer Professional Services

One offering we’re hoping to make available in the near future is a directory of trusted, trained professionals who are familiar with grief and are willing to volunteer or discount their services for people who are navigating a recent loss. This includes counselors, accountants, financial advisors, lawyers, and more. Losing a loved one can be incredibly disorienting, and often the fog of grief can make it feel impossible to handle necessities like legal paperwork or settling an estate. Having a place to go to find trustworthy people who can help manage these tasks is a lifeline to people who are grieving.
